The work, before the words
Ethnic Cotler’s team drives the whole shoot from one dashboard. Six guided steps, no prompt-writing, no crew.
Step 1 — Select apparel
Add the product once, then shoot it forever. Uploaded a single time, it stays in the catalogue for every future image and video.
Step 2 — Select model
Lock one consistent face across the whole catalogue. Pick a model, upload your own, or let the system choose, so every product looks like one shoot.
Step 4 — Select pose
Every angle from one upload. Front, side, back, three-quarter. Poses that would each cost a separate frame on a real set.
Step 5 — Accessories & final settings
Style the shot the way a photographer would. Footwear, accessories, lens and focus, without booking one.
The client in one line
Ethnic Cotler is an online ethnic apparel brand selling kurtas, co-ord sets, and ethnic wear direct to shoppers. Like any catalogue brand, nothing sells until there is a clean on-model photo of it, so every new drop is gated by imagery.
The challenge
New styles were ready to sell before their photos existed. Each drop meant booking a photographer, lining up a model, a stylist, and a studio, then waiting for edits to come back. That is a real cost and a real delay on every single SKU, paid again the next time inventory changed.
“Every time we dropped a new set, we were basically waiting on a photographer’s calendar. The clothes were ready to sell and the photos weren’t.”
Why the old way broke
The math stops working the moment your catalogue moves faster than a shoot day can keep up. A photographer gives you a fixed number of frames on a fixed date. Ethnic Cotler kept adding product between those dates. So the backlog was never the photographer’s speed, it was the gap between “product is live in inventory” and “product has a photo.” Every day in that gap is a product you can’t merchandise.
What we built
Ethnic Cotler runs Kaptured purely as self-serve software. Their team drives it end to end, so there is no agency in the loop and no shoot to schedule.
We did the setup once. A custom dashboard was configured with their models, backgrounds, and reusable style templates loaded in, so the brand’s look is baked in before anyone generates a thing. After that, the workflow is the six steps above: add a garment, pick the locked model, choose background, pose, accessories, and final lens settings. Adding a product costs nothing. Generating a Standard image costs 10 credits, roughly a few cents.
Kaptured was built by an IIT Bombay and Y Combinator team to replace slow, expensive content teams with software a brand runs itself. Ethnic Cotler is exactly that: the same output as a studio, produced by the people who already run the store.
“Once the team loaded our models and backgrounds, that was it. Now someone on my team adds a product in the morning and we have catalogue shots by lunch. No brief, no booking, no back and forth.”
The results
The headline is volume with no shoot behind it: about 200 catalogue images a month, generated in-house, on demand.
Put that against the old cost of the same 200 images. Using Kaptured’s published studio benchmark of $80 to $150 per finished image, once you count the model, the photographer, and editing, 200 images the traditional way runs an estimated $16,000 to $30,000 a month. On Kaptured’s Brand plan, that same 200 Standard images sits inside a plan that costs under $60 a month. That is the line item going from a budget meeting to a rounding error.
The other win is timing, and it does not show up as “days to hours.” It shows up as “gone.” There is no turnaround to measure because there is no shoot to wait for. A product added in the morning has catalogue imagery the same day, every time, for as many angles as the listing needs.
“We’re doing about 200 images a month now and I haven’t booked a single shoot. The spend went from a real line item to basically nothing.”
Before vs after
| Before | After | |
|---|---|---|
| Trigger for new imagery | Schedule a shoot | Product gets added to the dashboard |
| People involved | Photographer, model, stylist, coordinator | One person on the Ethnic Cotler team |
| Cost per image | ~$80 to $150 (benchmark) | A few cents of credits |
| Catalogue consistency | Varies shoot to shoot | One locked model and look across everything |
| Speed to live photo | Next available shoot date | Same day |
| Angles per product | Whatever the frame budget allowed | Front, side, back, angled, as needed |
Why it matters for brands like yours
If you run an apparel catalogue with frequent drops and a small team, this is what changes for you: you stop treating photography as an event you book and start treating it as a step you do, the same day the product lands. Load your models and backgrounds once, add each product once, and generate as many on-brand images as the listing needs. The cost per image falls from a studio rate to pennies, and the catalogue finally moves at the speed of your inventory instead of your calendar.
