Virtual try-on

Virtual try-on is a shopper-facing technology that lets customers see how a garment, accessory, or piece of jewelry would look on their own body before buying.

Virtual try-on is distinct from AI on-model imagery for the brand. On-model imagery is brand-side production. Virtual try-on is a customer-side experience — usually delivered through a widget on the brand's PDP that uses webcam or photo upload to overlay the product onto the customer.

The business case is return reduction. Returns from fit problems are one of the largest costs in fashion ecommerce, especially for apparel and footwear. A working try-on widget can reduce returns by 10-30% in tested categories.

Most AI fashion platforms today are brand-side production tools. A smaller set (uwear.ai, Zyler, GlamAR) ship shopper-facing try-on widgets. Some brands use both — production tools for catalog imagery and try-on widgets for conversion.
