Drape (in fashion AI)

Drape is how a garment falls on a body — the silhouette, fold lines, fabric weight, and movement that make clothing read as real. AI fashion engines must render drape accurately to produce believable on-model imagery.

Drape is the single hardest thing for AI fashion engines to get right. A generic image model will paste a flat garment onto a flat figure with no awareness of how silk falls differently from denim, or how a saree pallu hangs versus a linen jacket.

Fashion-tuned engines train on garment-specific drape behaviour. Silk, chiffon, linen, denim, leather, satin, and synthetic blends each have different rendering profiles. Indian-fashion engines layer on saree drape, lehenga panel, kurta fit, and dupatta movement specifically.

Drape quality is the visible difference between catalog-grade AI imagery and 'good enough for social' AI imagery. The bar is whether a customer can evaluate the garment from the image alone.
